For those who doubt that a definitive initiative is needed for the Legal immigrant community, may I humbly remind them of the most basic and the most important phrase of the US Constitution..."Every human being has the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness". What has been happening with all this memos and counter-memos and visa bulletins from the USCIS and the DOS is a denial of our basic human rights...first as Human beings and then as Legal Immigrants. Friends we can possibly build a strong case based on the informed readings of the US Constitution and Law. We have done nothing wrong to get such treatment buy these departments. We have followed every law and requirement that the US Immigration Law has prescribed but because of the sheer number of immigrants from India and China we are being disadvantaged and discriminated by the US Congress, certain laws and by these departments. It is not a legal immigrants fault that the US Law does not limit the F1 visas issued in a year by country and the number of jobs applied under H1b program by country. The endless delays in the GC process clearly disadvantages the legal immigrant community from large countries like India and China compared with legal immigrants from other countries and even US citizens. They clearly cannot pursue their dreams of prosperity, career advancement, security (for himself and family via education, jobs and homes) and overall happiness. Justice delayed is nearly always denied.

All the posts above are good coping measures, and some are used to actually deal with depressive symptoms. However they have missed the MOST important one! You used the term clinical depression. Please if you truly feel that way seek help, and seek it now, talk to your doctor or to a councilor. Though I won't go into details, I am speaking from personal experience. Sometimes things build up so much that we slip into such a state where we go beyond sadness and frustration and move to true depression.
From a site on depression: Depression is a disorder that affects your thoughts, moods, feelings, behavior and even your physical health. People used to think it was "all in your head" and that if you really tried, you could "snap out of it" or just "get over it." But doctors now know that depression is not a weakness, and it's not something you can treat on your own. Depression is a medical disorder with a biological and chemical basis.
Sometimes a stressful life event triggers depression. Other times depression seems to occur spontaneously with no identifiable specific cause. Depression is much more than grieving or a bout of the blues.
Depression, true clinical depression, is nothing you can cure with a trip to somewhere else, or having people point out to you how much better you are off than this person or that one. I am linking one of many sites that are out there, please read it and if you really do have the symptoms do what it suggests. Or Google "Clinical Depression" (beware of sites trying to sell drugs, usually easy to tell as they tend to recommend their drug as the only solutions.):

We are still in the same rut :mad: and not a single immigration news to read either :eek: let alone have any kind of active debate on the topic !!
You are wrong. There have been lot of changes. Two year EAD for one. And how about EB2 category moving to mid 2006 so most of the EB2 people before that have got GC or will surely get it next year. The only thing that hasn;'t changed is EB3 India. It was stuck in 2001 at that time and still is in 2001. It will crawl to 2002 in the coming year but that's that.

One of the features of the fight for EB immigration reforms we all need to be cognizant of is - that most (99%) of the members are in this fight to solve an immediate personal problem (visa situation) in a timely manner - most of us are not in it because we believe it to be a cause larger than us and a cause that demands personal sacrifice - and hence the lack of collective passion (lukewarm responses to IV sponsored drives, donation efforts etc.)
While - many have tried to compare this cause to India's independence struggle or Gandhiji's movement in South Africa - but the fundamental difference is that in both these struggles - people who led the struggles led it at a personal cost (Gandhiji willingly gave away a lucrative career to take up the struggle and so did Nehru; Netaji Bose was a Civil Services Officer and gave it up) - even the vast majority of revolutionaries (Bhagat Singh et al) were college educated professionals who could easily have had nice careers in British India.........and therein lies the fundamental difference......not one of us would willingly give up what we have for this struggle - we are in it because we are stuck in a system and want some resolution.......as soon as our particular situation gets resolved...we move on....(maybe there are a few exceptions and hats off to these folks).........and hence Desi - the answer to your question why H1 does not care for F1 and EAD does not care for H1 and so on.......it is not a collective cause - it is just a collection of individual causes - thats all - we would be fooling ourselves if we had some other grandiose visions - calling this group a cause would be the same as calling passengers on a bus one group - they are in the same bus simply because they share a part of their journey - thats it

At workplaces, there is no healthy discussion - all people do is to watch out their backs and talk accordingly - which leads to false perspectives. These days when we give a good advice to friends or someone they may not percieve it in a good way with a "stop preaching me - go help yourself" attitude.

Can someone with a paypal account come forward and take over a fund? Anyone with a paypal account can donate any amount using a nickname and we can publish the nickname along with the amount donated on this thread. That way we have accountability and also have a better idea of how many flowers we can send. That person with the paypal account can then order the flowers on Saturday by the latest.
Others, if they want, can send the flowers on their own also.

we get excited before and few days after the bulletin ...the fact is that iron is no longer hot ..no matter what we do now -- it is too late. democrats focussed on healthcare instead of immigration and are fighting a losing battle ..they will be too tired to do anything after that. for those in EB3 and those who are in EB2 (but not yet filed 485) ...all they can do is have a strong plan B ..make as much money as you can while the sun shines ..the odds of getting a GC is worse that winning a lottery (so might as well buy few tickets now and then !!).
the only slight hope is that since amnesty is as good as dead ..they may pass some sort of recapture (maybe to give additional boost to housing).
